This is Mr Kek Siew Kok. After being trained in first aid, he joined the Singapore branch of the British Red Cross Society back in 1953 to put his first aid skills to good use. He joined as a member of the Voluntary Aid Detachment. Over the years, he had responded to major local disasters including the Bukit Ho Swee Fire in 1961, Spyros Explosion in 1978, cable car accident in 1983 and Hotel New World Collapse in 1986. Besides that, he was deployed for Night Ambulance Service in the 1960s.
